T1 ignition >1 week before earningsNormal signal — earnings risk is distantManage as standard setup. Reassess as earnings date approaches.
Core rule: T1 ignitions are trend-following setups, not event plays

The 55% win rate on T1 ignitions comes from the signal structure, not from directional bets on earnings. Earnings create binary outcomes that can instantly invalidate even the strongest technical setups. Treat earnings as a risk event to manage around, not an opportunity to size up.

Post-Earnings Ignitions — One of the Best Setups

When a company reports strong earnings and gaps up 5–15%, the resulting bull count-1 is often one of the highest-quality T1 setups in the system. Here's why:

Catalyst is known

The earnings gap eliminates the near-term binary uncertainty. Buyers know what they're buying.

Weak hands shaken

Pre-earnings holders who bought for the event already had their exit. The stock is held by new committed buyers.

High institutional interest

Earnings beats often trigger institutional upgrades and position-building in the days after the report.

Watch extension

The only risk is entering too far from the trigger. If the gap pushed ext_score > 1.0, wait for a pullback to within 1% of trigger.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does TraderValue show earnings data?

TraderValue shows earnings dates in two places: (1) The earnings tab in the workspace shows upcoming earnings (7 days ahead) and recent earnings (3 days behind) for stocks in the scan universe, with per-symbol charts. (2) On 1-day and 1-week Edge charts, past earnings dates are shown as circle markers — green for EPS beats, red for EPS misses, gray when no surprise data is available. Markers auto-hide for symbols without reportable earnings (ETFs, futures).

Should I hold a T1 ignition signal through earnings?

The default rule is: do not initiate a new T1 long entry if earnings are within 3 days. For existing positions: if your position is already profitable and earnings are approaching, consider taking partial profit at +0.618 ATR before the report and holding the remainder through with a tighter trailing stop. Never size up going into earnings — the binary outcome (gap up 10% or gap down 10%) invalidates the normal stop-based risk management. The signal system is designed for trend-following, not event speculation.

Do earnings beats cause T1 ignitions?

Often yes — a strong earnings beat with a gap-up open frequently triggers a bull count-1 on the gap day. These post-earnings ignitions have higher-than-average win rates because the catalyst (earnings) eliminates near-term uncertainty. The bull count-1 on a gap-up day is one of the cleanest setups in the system. However, chasing a gap that has already moved 8–10% from trigger significantly elevates the extension score (ext_score) and degrades win rate — prefer entries that form after the gap settles, when the stock pulls back to within 1% of the trigger.

What does an EPS beat vs miss look like on the chart?

In TraderValue's Edge chart mode, earnings markers appear on the candle at the reporting date. A green "E" circle means EPS beat (actual earnings exceeded consensus estimate). A red "E" circle means EPS miss. A gray "E" circle means the earnings date is known but no surprise data is available. Hovering over a marker shows the quarter. Enable the "Earn" toggle button in the chart toolbar to show or hide these markers.

How do I find stocks with earnings this week?

In the TraderValue workspace, navigate to the "More" view and look for the earnings tab. It shows all stocks in the scan universe with earnings in the next 7 days, sorted by date, with current signal state (bull count, SCTR, trend) so you can see which upcoming-earnings stocks also have active setups. The @Wiz bot also responds to "@Wiz earnings" with a live calendar embed showing the same data in Discord.

Why do some stocks show earnings markers and others don't?

Earnings markers only appear for securities that file quarterly earnings reports with the SEC — individual stocks and some REITs and MLPs. ETFs (SPY, QQQ, etc.), futures contracts (ES, NQ, etc.), and indices do not report earnings, so no markers appear for those symbols. The "Earn" toggle button in the chart toolbar also auto-hides when the symbol has zero earnings history, so you'll only see the button for symbols where it's relevant.
